Aching Dogs Theater Company
In 1997, The New York Hotel Trades Council, AFL-CIO, the union that represents New York City’s hotel workers, created Aching Dogs Theater to give its members—hotel and restaurant workers—an opportunity to showcase their talents. Peter Ward, the President of the Union , believed it was important for union members who are aspiring actors, writers and directors to have an opportunity to develop their craft at weekly workshops and also be given the chance to be seen on stage. He appointed Pamela Scott to run Aching Dogs Theater’s weekly workshops and to produce one to two shows a year that feature members of the Union along with other professionals. Since so many performers are working in hotels and restaurants, the Union believes the program can help them build a community of artists and, of course, help find them further pursue their artistic dreams.
